The Atacama Desert in northern Chile is one of the darkest places on Earth. I was there to photograph the total solar eclipse and drove out into the desert one night to photograph the Milky Way. I pulled off the road into a little dirt parking area out in the middle of nowhere. Walking around in the dark with my headlamp there was an old stuffed chair. I’m always looking for unusual foreground subjects when doing astrophotography and this sure proved to be one. I lit the chair and let the stars shine.
